The Mason Space Exploration Center (MSEC) Summer Camp at George Mason University offers an award-winning, immersive science experience for aspiring astronomers in grades 4-9. Campers engage in hands-on STEM activities focused on space science, fostering curiosity and a love for scientific discovery. Activities include coding challenges with Micro:Bits to create solar panels and radar detectors, physics experiments exploring motion and gravity, and exciting rocket launches. Campers also have the opportunity to tour the George Mason Observatory, home to the Geller Telescope, and visit physics and engineering labs on both the Fairfax and SciTech campuses. The program emphasizes teamwork and leadership skills through small teams and rotating roles, culminating in a "press conference" where campers present their findings to families. The Advanced Camp for rising 6th-9th graders features more challenging activities, while the Base Camp is designed for rising 4th-5th graders.

What a typical day looks like

A typical day includes drop-off between 8:45-9:15 a.m., expert-led STEM activities and hands-on projects, a lunch break from 12:00-1:00 p.m., and pickup between 3:45-4:15 p.m. On Fridays, campers participate in a "press conference" from 2:00-4:00 p.m. to communicate their findings.
