About this camp

The Mason Space Exploration Center (MSEC) Camp offers elementary school campers an exciting journey of discovery through expert-led STEM activities. Campers engage in hands-on projects, computer coding, and physics demonstrations with a focus on space. Activities include programming and electronics with Micro Bits to create solar panels and radar detectors, and even launching them on a rocket. Campers explore physics and astronomy concepts like motion and gravity, and construct a campus-wide scale model of the Solar System. They also get to tour the George Mason Observatory (Fairfax) and explore the Geller Telescope, one of the largest on an East-Coast campus. The camp fosters teamwork and leadership skills through small teams and rotating roles, guided by instructors passionate about STEAM fields. Each day focuses on an astronomy theme, such as Rocketry and Flight, Science in Space, Lunar Landings, Telescopes and Light, and Mapping the Night Sky.
