The Virginia Tech UPWARDS TechTrek High School Summer Program is a two-week, project-based program for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Students engage in hands-on modules covering modern computing hardware and intelligent systems. Activities include exploring electronic circuits, FPGA-based digital design, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and Python programming. Participants work with Internet of Things platforms like micro:bit, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi, and delve into robotics and drone technology. The program connects lecture content with working hardware through practical lab projects. Students also have the opportunity to take field trips to leading technology and manufacturing employers and may be invited to continue into a yearlong innovation and research track, collaborating with Virginia Tech faculty and students on active research projects.
Weekdays run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST, combining short lecture modules with hands-on projects to connect theoretical concepts with working hardware.
